Linea Falsa is a series of self portraits by artist Salina Almanzar that critically examine the limitations of representation of Latinx artists in Art Historical education.

"I am interested in the ways many Latinx artists hold icons like Frida as sacred simply because of the blindspots in our education as artists. We value a canon that greatly discounts the contributions of thousands of artists of color, and I hope that by literally embodying Frida Kahlo I am able to situate myself in a new canon." - Almanzar

Prints will be available for purchase at the show.

About the artist: Salina M. Almanzar is a Puerto Rican and Dominican artist, educator, writer, social justice advocate. Her passion and life work is to educate, critique, and examine how the Caribbean Latinx diaspora and culture are represented in the arts.

Her art and scholarship explores the intersections of Latinidad, feminism, decolonial practice, and Taino spirituality. She wakes up every morning learning to embrace what it means to be ni de aqui y ni de alla. Everything she does is to help others who are like her feel united with the diaspora and discover the beauty and freedom that can exist in the margins.
